With guided nature walks, kid-friendly learning, and hands-on art projects throughout Houghton Park and the Houghton Conservation Area, the BNRLT welcomes families to discover how fun—and important—caring for our natural spaces can be. Buffalo Public School #53 – Nan M. Wood Community School of Excellence is hosting an Earth Day clean-up to bring students, families, and neighbors together in caring for the school grounds and surrounding community. Erie County and the Omega Mentoring Program proudly hosts an Earth Day Celebration with family-friendly activities, sustainably-minded give aways, and information about Earth-savvy organizations and services. The event will also feature a recognition ceremony for the Erie County Environmental Management Council Annual Environmental Excellence Awards and the WNY Stormwater Coalition's Rain Barrel Painting Contest. New this year will be a Dare to Repair Cafe. Celebrate Earth Day at the centrally located Northland Workforce Training Center in Buffalo with fun for the whole family!

NAACP: Environmental and Climate Justice Committee (ECJ) Monthly Meetings
The NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice (ECJ) Committee monthly meetings serve as a strategic hub for addressing the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on Buffalo’s communities of color. These sessions bring together residents and advocates to tackle systemic issues.
Buffalo Street Trees will be present to inform and engage residents of the opportunities and benefits of bringing trees to their neighborhoods!
NAACP Speaks Radio Program
Buffalo Street Trees will be featured on the NAACP Speaks Radio Program program to highlight the Buffalo Street Tree Initiative and the role of urban forestry in our communities. The episode will air the following Sunday at 11:30am!
Masten District Stakeholder Meeting
The Masten District stakeholder meetings serve as a critical forum for residents, business owners, and community leaders to shape the future of Buffalo’s East Side. Often organized by the Masten District Council Member—currently Zeneta Everhart—these meetings facilitate direct dialogue between the community and city officials on high-priority issues like affordable housing, public safety, and neighborhood revitalization.

Re-Tree Planting Day
Roll up your sleeves and help plant the future of Buffalo! On Saturday, November 1, 2025, join the Buffalo Green Fund for a Community-Wide Tree Planting Day. Volunteers will be placed at various sites across the city to plant bare root trees in neighborhoods that need them most.
No experience? No problem! Training is available at the October 25th Tree Planting Workshop (strongly encouraged), and all tools and instructions will be provided on planting day.

Buffalo Green Fund Tree Planting Workshop
Join Buffalo Green Fund for a hands-on Tree Planting Workshop designed for anyone interested in helping with the November 1st Community Tree Planting, or simply looking to learn how to properly select, plant, and care for trees.
Led by experts in bare root tree planting and tree care, the workshop includes practical instruction and concludes with the planting of a tree at Forest Lawn. No experience necessary — just a willingness to learn and contribute to Buffalo’s greener future.
