English Oak (Quercus robur)
English oak is a large, long-lived shade tree prized for its stately form, broad canopy, and historical significance in landscapes and parks. Native to Europe, it has been widely planted in North America for centuries and performs well in cities like Buffalo when given adequate space to mature. Its massive branching structure and durable nature make it an excellent specimen tree for parks, campuses, and large residential landscapes. It is best suited for spacious sites where it can mature fully.

How to Care for Me?
English oak grows best in full sun and prefers well-drained soils, though it adapts to a range of urban soil conditions once established. Water regularly during the first 2–3 years to establish a deep root system. After establishment, supplemental watering is usually only needed during extended dry periods. Prune in late winter to establish strong structure when young. Mature trees require minimal maintenance but should be planted in locations with enough room for their broad canopy and extensive root system.
