It is valued for its fragrant spring flowers, wildlife-friendly fruit, and ability to thrive in a wide range of environmental conditions. How to Care for Me?

Chokecherry performs best in full sun to partial shade and adapts to a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils. Water regularly during the first 2–3 years to establish a healthy root system. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant and requires little supplemental watering except during extended dry periods. Prune in late winter to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. This species commonly produces root suckers which can be removed to maintain a single-trunk or multi-stem tree form.
